>>>#5/4/23 The lost art of Wandering Walkabout

It is true that during the ancient days, humans simply roam the land, sampling things to eat and simply walking for hours.  This tradition was carried out by Henry David Thoreau when he put up a place in Walden during his summer retreats.

I am trying to live up to this tradition with my morning walks.  Unfortunately, nowadays my walks are far and apart.  I had been bitten by the malaise of the modern-day era.  I had become complacent.

Wandering Walkabout rightfully should not be rigid.  It should be a process of discovery, like a dog walking in the woods; trotting here and there, sniffing and scruffing, and occasionally scratching.  In short, it is an active process of uncovering what is new and reaffirming what is old.

I do however mentally practice that when I write the blog.  It may take me several pages of rudimental scribbles before I come to a morsel of gold nugget.  Nevertheless, that occasion if well-honed can in exchange reward me with a motherlode.

So yeah, I still practice the lost art of Wandering Walkabout or in Malay we call "merapu".  Alas, a mental walkabout is best suited to a one-hour walk in the morning.  In that sense, the spirit of the Wandering Walkabout is still alive in me although my one-hour walk is now circumventing the local shopping mall.
